Turmeric is one of those over-achieving-anti-inflammatory-free-radical-neutralizing-liver-detoxing spices that I try to get into my diet as much as possible. In fact, one of my favorite go-to breakfasts is sliced avocado with a drizzle of olive oil, a squeeze of lime, a healthy dusting of ground turmeric and some roasted pumpkin seeds. I eat it with some sprouted wheat toast and all is right in the world.
Traditionally used medicinally in both Indian and Chinese cultures, turmeric has a unique taste; part pepper, part orange with some bitterness and an earthy finish. You are probably most familiar with its prevalence in curries. But this is no curried smoothie, friends. This is just a great, simple way to get some seriously healing spice into your life.
You'll notice that this recipe serves four and you can certainly break it down for one. But why not share when it's oh so good for you? Use your favorite vanilla-flavored protein powder and I promise it tastes more like a chai milkshake than anything even remotely healthy for you.

2 frozen bananas
